Tank Size - would this work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I were in your shoes I wouldn't do silvers, jars and leichardtis I would just do a Jardini you could keep it in that tank the longest out of all of them.

But really you ask for advice and then you don't take it into consideration.

i have no idea what ur trying to say about me, or my history on mfk. but like i said. do as u please, for life, growout, or whatever.

yah fish are different, yah the possibility is there for things to work since keepers have different personalities and fish have different personalities. but by judging from a percentage of what works n what doesn't. i base my opinion and responses to peoples request's in help off of that.

i say lei's dont like similiar shape/color tankmates for many reasons. 1, ask steve_89. 2, other's have tried lei's with lei's, it was a no go. 3, tong tried it with a atf, again a no go. 4, i've tried it with a silver, again a no go.

how many leichardti aro comm's do u see with other aros? i've seen a pic of a public aquarium with a buncha full grown leichardtis. that i give mad props to.

im a rambler, i say what i think. but ur gonna do what u want anyway as i do the same. use ur tank as a growout. or as a perminant asian style packed to the max tank. whatever.

would this work (of course given the jar doesn't kill everyone)

1 - jar or lei
2-4 - dats
1-2 - monster plecs
1-2 - grow out silver aros

is that too much?

filtration will be dual cannister and a diy wetdry

if i could only get some asians in socal......

ok, so the final stocking idea:

2 - 10/11" silver (or black/blue) aros
1 - 5/7" lei or jar
4-6 - 5-8" dats
1-2 - 6/8" plecs (most likely 1 gib, 1 panaque)

all introduced within 1-2 weeks of each other ---

from there, will add accordingly as i think my filtration will be up to the task...

ok, so i am trying to put in some serious planning for the now finalized new tank to be in september! so happy......

again, it will be 4ft x 3ft x 2ft

revised stock plan:

2 - silver aros
1 - jar/lei
4 - dats
2 - pbass

some points to address:

- jar/lei : after doing some further research, i think the tank can house it for life (given average max length seems to be around the 24-26" mark)
- silvers : i think the width will allow me to keep them till around 24/28" mark --- and dependent on stocking level of the tank at that time - keep or sell
- dats : slow growing - by the time they need bigger, i'll have bigger
- pbass : ill go with one of the smaller type and the 3ft width should give me plenty of time for these guys to get big

what do you think?

i have been talking to some of the local fish keepers here in china that i have come in contact with - they seem to think my tank can house even more fish.....although i won't be taking that advice - i am confident i can raise healthy fish until either a 240 or 300gal comes into my possession...

honestly, i know to some (or many) - this may sound a tad crazy....

i should note that in the 1-2 yr range, a larger tank will be in the pic...at which time, the silvers will probably move out, along with the dats, leaving the pbass and lei/jar....

but for the first 1-1.5 years, i ACTUALLY believe this setup can work....

beginning size of fish:

silvers: 8-10"
jar/lei: 4-6"
dats: 3-5"
pbass: 4-5"

Well if ya keep asking the same question over and over, eventually someone will agree with ya. I say go for it, so what if everyone tells ya it won't work. There always exeptions to the norms. I mean what's the worst that can happen, heck there just fish right! Who cares if ya gotta buy more, heck you can always make more money, to buy more fish. You saw the silvers in the 20g right? With your tank you could double or triple the stocking suggestions ya made.

Just remember please post pics.

Ethnics, I looked at your history too, seems that you are posting personal opinions based on experiences or facts. Really in the future it would be much better to just tell people what they want to hear, cause it'll make them happy.

Edit: sorry to all the good members of MFK, for this post full of pure sarcassim. Did you know sarcassim is the lowest form of wit?

ill hopefully learn from my mistakes, and become a better fish keeper

i should note, and perhaps people can correct/chime in here.....

has anyone ever attempted to start a silver with a jar/lei at the following sizes?

silver @ 8" and jar @ 3/5" ? my reasoning is as follows: silvers are typically more docile in nature,
and therefore would probably not snack on a 3-5" jar given it's size --- as long as the silver can
defend itself (potentially easier as it grows faster) - it may maintain a "false" dominance in the tank
against the slower growing jar ---

if someone has done this exact scenario - i will stand corrected - simple

dude im gonna level with u....... im not trying to flame or be mean but the shear(sp) Gal~fish waste/ aggression and size WONT WORK. it just wont. WHy do u NEEEEED 3 aros in a 180. your tank will be awsome with just one. Now if u want two that might work MIGHHHHHHHHHHHHT work. Theres someone on here who had a jar and silver and put it on his avatar with "harmony is possible" but that took a long time of trial and error and if u wanna really dedicate the time to find the right specimens mor epower to u. But just get a single silver. do urself a favor and and the animal.

Cause atg this point u would be using the poor fishes happiness and comfort for your on greedy misinformed pleasures.

u pick....

i had an 8" aro with a 3" goldfish, n then chomp... im sure he could chow down a 3" jar easily.

jus do the mix, and post pics. n keep us updated on what remains in it and for how long.

thanks all for the good input....

an update: decided to go with something between 250-300gal....

as for the stocking, leaving the drama behind --

will stock up, post pics when the time comes....
