alright, so you suggest importing the amazon river? to be "truly" happy, healthy and thriving it should be in its native habitat. not even a 1000 gallon pond is as good as its south american ecosystem. just to give you an idea, the amazon dumps 60,000,000 gallons of water per second into the atlantic ocean.

I am not trying to flame you or anything, I am just trying to get you to see the potential of these fish to get massive....if you don't want to listen fine..have a nice stunted TSN and see how happy it makes you.

it is true that we will never be able to come any where close to recreating the size of the amazon river in private aquaria, but when you look at the dimensions of a standard 180-220 gallon you will find that they are 2 feet wide, a healthy adult tsn, even one in captivity, will not be able to turn around in a tank of that size. for a tsn, a tank or pond with a foot print of 8' x 4' should be the bare minimum

agreed^, something of that dimension would be fine, but no normal production sized tank will do.

sorry if i come off as being blunt by saying this but if someone cannot handle taking care of a tank as large as a tsn and cannot afford to hire someone to maintain it for them, then they shouldn't buy a tsn, plain and simple

diskboy- TSNs dont get 4 feet long unless they are kept in a 1000 gallon pond as you said.

you are correct here, they wont grow to there full potential in a tank that is not large enough, their growth will be stunted which leads to numerous health problems and results in a severely shortened lifespan

Really? You think that a TSN NEEDS to be kept in a 1000 gallon pond? And money is not an object here; i was simply wondering IF you could ostensibly keep a TSN in a med-large size indoor aquaria and judging the inflammatory remarks by that kid and yourself, you believe that a TSN needs at least 1,000 gallons of water in order for it to survive, am I correct?

I agree with this 110%....don't have the time and space, don't get one.

I agree with this 110%....don't have the time and space, don't get one. Plus, the 8'x4' is more reasonable, I didn't say it's how I would go to keep mine nice and happy.
