Gday,
I'm new here and am currently trying to design an tank stand for an 8x2.5x2 tank that i'm going to have made up.

Here are some pics of what I had in mind (i'm mainly after ideas to whether it would be strong enough)

This is the front side frame idea (note I need a gap in the middle to be able to get a 4' tank sump inside)

Frame work is all ment to be 2x4 with the corners and middle uprights doubled up for added support since theres a fairly large gap at the front side

Thanks for any feedback/advice
David.

That's going to be outstanding

Well thought out.

As long as your using good construction & finishing techniques (not butt joints) and sheeting on the outside your good to go.

The only other thing to do is make an extra one to sacrifice to the tank gods (I'll deliver it for you) :D .

Keep us posted,

Dr Joe

here is a pic of mine for a 300g I put 5/8 ply on top and on bottom as well. The outside wasn't finished because I built it into a wall but they are all 4x4 legs and 2x6 framing around with a few 2x4's for bracing. I think you could park a dump truck on it if you wanted.

what type of joints would you guys reconmend ?

Lap/dovetail/mort n tenon?

Thanks
David

jsodwi ur 4x4 look like green board lol. Looks nice tho.

No joints! each nail 16D can hold up to 100pounds. Or as i was told o.o just nail the thing up and brace it a little. I have seen high end stands An non never used Joint. Don't know what other ppl thing about this but i don't like joints.

Bit of an update.

Bought the wood for the frame over the weekend and started some cutting and dry asembling of the top section.
