Tank Stand Design 8'x2.5'x2' tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, thought I might run a update my tank setup.

Its currently emtpy @ mum n dads place where the old setup was built, and I'm in the process of building a new stand and a new setup to make a marine hall way @ my house that I purchased recently.

Starting with the plan.

I want to split my front room off from the front door as I use it as a computer room/study and it is currently competely open to anyone entering the house.

To do this we plan to build a fake wall that will be relativly easy to remove in the event that we buy a new house or move in the future (and want to take the tank with us instead of upgrading to bigger haha :D)

The tank itself this time will be setup over the next 12months, and I will be planning to run all the electrical gear via PLC controls with alarms setup for PH, temp etc.

Circulation will be run via a closed loop system after we drill some new holes in the bottom of the tank to corperator the pumps that will be used.

Lighting will be setup via 2x Solatube skylights as the principal lighting and sup'd with a DIY LED lighting arangement.

So new plans a worthless without pics so heres the stand design.

The stand after i've finished painting it, and move it into the house, as you can see it will make a mini hall way when you enter the house so that the computer/study is seperated, but also be a nice feature to enter to and to look at while working on the computers.

This is were i'm up to right now, Just started putting the ply down on the stand, onces thats done i need to organise to get the skylights installed then I can arrage to get the tanks moved over here.

After I get the main tank in its spot, I have another frame to build that will go from the top of the tank to the roof, and bolt onto the frame already installed, then gyprock will cover the entire stand setup, skirting to be installed and be painted to match the rest of the walls.

they are a 40mm dia base with a 10mm thick rubber boot on the base of them, they should be fine

How much is all the Steel tubing going to weigh compared to the wood frame housing?
way less if you build the wood frame to the same strength as steel tubing...
Can you imagine how big the timbers would have to be to give you the same strength as the steel?
