What is the optimum height for a stand? I have read 30 inches but is that taking into consideration of the tank height. I'm starting to build a stand for a 55 gallon tank. Want to get all the needed information before hand.

It's mostly preference of owner, mines at 25 inches but I'd like it a little taller, thirty would be a nice height stand for a 55

just to be clear thats stand alone, without the tank

I wouldn't build a stand that is under 30". I would build it higher based on the tank. I think I will actually like my 540 when it is setup. The stand will be 36".

^^ agree x3 Build to what you like. Mine will be 32" + 20" high tank (75) cause I want book shelves under the tank.

i built my 150 's stand 36" high and i love it its not too low or too high the top of the tank is right at eye level although i do need a stool to stand on to do maintenance etc. but its worth it

I build mine taking both maintenance and looks into consideration. I like most people don't like stands that are too low, but I also know that a tank that sits too high will be harder for me to do maintenance which will make me put it off. My current preference is to build stands so that the top of the tank sits right around 54", which is the height of my armpit. I like to be able to reach close to the bottom of my tanks w/o worrying about using a stool.
