Tank stand Height?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It really depends on what you plan on doing while looking at it.sitting in a chair or couch?barstool?Floor?Want it a showtank for a foyer where people will be standing?Think it through before making the plans.

The stand that came with my 180 is only about 30", always felt it was too low especially when standing and looking at the fish. In it's new intended location through a wall it'll be viewed in a hallway and livingroom so going for 36-40" stand height for easy standing viewing from the hallway and be able to put plenty of shelves beneath it in the livingroom.

Think about the location and how it's going to be viewed or useful in your choosen location and work from that.

Ive built a couple at 36" and ill never go back. I HATE looking down at fish.

^ this.

My stand on my 220 is 36" tall and my tank is 30". I love the view of fish right in front of me and not bending over.

The stand I built for my 240 is 36" , it's also 24" wide . 55 Gal. arent that wide and the higher you go the less stable it is. There is a happy medium in there somewhere between height and stability. Also does it sit on carpet or something hard ( tile, concrete or wood) this all plays a part in stand height, not just viewing the tank, do you live where there are earthquakes? Socal for instance. Good luck

For my 220 I am in the process of finishing out my stand at only 24". That will leave the top of the tank at 54 without the canopy that i will be building. It is going in my family room where 90% of the viewing will be done from the couch so that still puts it at eye level while keepng it low enough to do maintenance without a stepladder. The gentleman that I got the tank from had it on a 36" stand, and let me tell you getting everything out of the tank was very painful. My arms just reach the bottom of the tank, stretched out and praying not to fall in.....
