Tank Update!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks guys, all the cichlids range from the largest cichlid being the carpintis at 6in (couple weeks ago he was right at the 6in mark so may be a tad larger now) and the smallest being the festae at about 3in. the festae is the one ive had the longest and i have had him since he was a tiny fry less than .5in long, i got the argentea when it was already about 3.5in and its probably about 5in now (not sure how long iv had it, maybe about 8mnths or shorter) and the midas is about the same size. the midas and carpintis are both from ira and were the same size when i got them at about 1.5in 6-7 months ago.

and batboi, yes all midas start out looking barred and peel when they get older, but from the petstore they may have already peeled for the first time, since a lot times their suppliers feed the fish hormone enhanced foods so that they peel early and look more appealing to buyers, in the full tank shots you can see where he is becoming more red, when he was younger he didnt have any red at all but as he gets older and begins his first peel he is getting more and more red, its pretty cool

I like your tank and stock. The argentea is gorgeous. I'm still growing out my vontehillo. He isn't even close to the size of yours. I love my gang of Festae but I'm really getting tired of the fighting. Trying to get fry out of these guys is not always worth the tank space they take. I would like to have a tank similar to yours with a variety of my faves. Right now I have to grow everything out before I even attempt to put them in with my Festae. My ideal tank may not look like yours until i get rid of all my Festae except one. Good luck with your awesome tank, Sarah. Oh.. I really like the driftwood too.

yeah to begin with i got a bit ahead of myself and started with several more fish and multiples of the vont, but as they all started getting larger i got rid of them all to open up space for these guys and am really happy with it now, of course im keeping my eye out for problems that may arise as they get older but so far so good, and im wanting to try and add a school of tiger barbs to the tank but they will need to be full grown or my senegals will have them for lunch, i cant add anything small to the tank because of them (you would think it would be the cichlids that cause problems but ive only had problems from the senegals when adding new fish :()
