Umm yeh, I would go collect some driftwood and fancy rocks if it wasnt frozen ;]

But, how could I get it to stay down without soaking it in water for a month?
I live in MI and got some day before yesterday and everything is frozen here, you can find stuff on the shore..The driftwood you find needs to be water logged and then it wont be so buoyant,it is dry and hard when you find it and it needs to be soaked....

So I could go to a frozen river and look for some wood & rocks along the river?

How will I know if its driftwood, and not just a log or some sticks?

That's pretty much what driftwood is though. Just find a piece that's water logged that you think will look good in your tank

If I was gonna collect debris of any sort from a creek or river - I'd boil the crap out of it to make sure any biology on the rocks or wood was dead before adding it to my tank. Also 3M pool filter sand is heavier than the silica sand used for sandblasting or the white caribbean playground sand. Less chance of it mixing with water causing pump noise or failure.
