TANKED on Animal Planet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea the first freshwater setup they did (which was the cichlid keg) - I believe they did horrible on...
First off..., fake coral in an africa cichlid tank???
Second.., Wheres the hardscape? Driftwood, rocks??
Third, It was way to crammed in there.

I hated the last episode. They built a barrel-shaped aquarium, which seemed like a cool idea, but then they put a massive column of fake corals and rock in the middle, taking up like 80% of the aquarium's volume, then they stocked it with about a half dozen large African cichlids, that apparently couldn't even turn around without having to get into an almost vertical position.

They know how to build tanks, but they know very little about how to stock or care for fish IMO.

I mean they where honestly surprised when newly acclimated rays buried them selves in sand?

That being said the tanks they make are amazing and I am enjoying the show despite some things like the coral in a freshwater tank that make me cringe

Click on the link that Zoodiver just added. It shows some great tanks. People, these guys are professionals and know fish.

Blame the directors and screen writers, not the characters. You can tell that the show is 95% scripted....I gurantee they do know the fish, just the writers/directors/producers wont let them babble on about the bio-load of a tank for 10 minutes, as much as a lot of us on MFK would enjoy.

MFK, get off of your high horses and just enjoy the show. It's got some value and it's definitely good for the hobby. Watch it for what it's worth. Everything that pertains to fish can't be made only for the purist. There are a lot more casual lovers of the hobby, than there are purists. Relax and enjoy.
