Tankmates for 2 tiger oscars in 175gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wanna share my story, i bought two oscars a couple of days ago because i wanted to add some sort of cichlid to my arowana tank. the moment i added those two tiger oscars to my tank, they immediately chased my school of silver dollars. those guys are 4 to 5 inches. the oscars are roughly the same. then saw my flagtail and also chased him and bullied him. the flagtail is 10". then turned their attention to my silver aro, almost 14". they didn't mind the difference, they bit him and got his scales. so before they wrecked more havoc i just isolated them in my spare tank. my point is that you cannot just add anything to oscars because they are plain mean. you should always be careful in choosing. i'm not saying that this is always the case but most of the time they are just like that.

It really depends on the temperment of the oscars. Mine is a puppy. If he gets in a bad mood, someone might lose a couple scales or get a little split fin but usually if it can't fit in his mouth it's safe with him.

I'd recommend a flagtail. They look awesome and are one of the best algae eaters around. A couple things to mention about them though: they don't like other flagtails or similar fish (my bigger one hates silver dollars) and they grow much slower than oscars so the flagtail has to have a head start.
I also like the lima idea.

When u add fish to oscar tanks u have to rearrange them. It makes the fish have to make new territory. Because the new fish doesnt knw whos territory is where. And the oscars will bully. If u do rearrange its like putting the oscars in a new tank. Nothing is familliar and they dont knw where there territory is. (well this works with some)

Imma do the shovelnose lima catfish if my lfs cant special order one ill get pictus catfish 2-4 and if i cant get those then ill get 5-6 silver dollars(hope they school well)

I have a Lima you can have for free. I'm in Ohio pm me if you want it.

Lima would be cool, also a bichir if you want something acient/prehistoric looking. You could probably do the oscars, lima, bichir, and school of silver dollars if you wanted to.
