Tankmates with JARDINI (READ!!!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bottom dwellers tend to be safer from a Jardini's harm. Once a Jar knows it can have its way with a fish IT WILL DO SO CONTINUIOUSLY!

Opiate,
If you really are worried i would seperate the new Jag as the aggression wont stop, sooner or later one will have to go or die...

Agreed.

If your jar starts picking on bottom dwellers you really have no hope at all.

I have one and kept it with a spotted gar and 6 plecos.. he ate all the plecos and kept on attacking the spotted gar so i have to leave it alone.. i also tried to put it in a tank with a larger aro, a silver, and it also kept on attacking the silver.. in the end it had to be alone.. very aggresive:)

I just did a quick read over this thread...

A lot of negatives are said about the jardini.

I would just like to make it clear that although the jardini can be a pain to keep with other fish, it should not be over looked.

They are a very fun fish to keep and can offer a lot of enjoyment. So do not let these negative comments stop you from purchasing a jardini, just use it as a precaution as to adding tankmates.

I have a jardini now for a few months and its about 15 cm. He is together with mastacembelus eels and that's going great. There's also a little ciclid of about 4 cm and he's still alive. After i read this thread i think he's not gonna live for a long time anymore.
Soon my jardini will get a new tank. 160x60x60cm. I'm considering to put a shovelnose (pseudoplatystoma fasciatum) in the new tank. i can buy them at a store and they're about the same size as my jardini. i'm not sure if my aro will kill it but i'm willing to give it a try.

I had pseudoplatystoma fasciatum in with a Jardini and he killed 3. I would come into the room to find the catfish hanging out of his mouth or dead. But the Jardini I kept is rreally nasty.

would it calm the aggression if I crowded the jardini with a bunch of aggressive cichlids?

The only problem was that my jardini was killed one day but maybe that was because it was only 8"

Does anybody have experience with a eel and a Jar. I also have a few mastacembelus eels that i can keep with my jardini. Would the jar also kill the eels or would he leave m alone?

Not really...

You can try though.
