Tankmates with JARDINI (READ!!!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a 18" jardini and its living with 5 datnoids that are all under 7" and the smallest one is 4".they have been living together for about a year.i also have 3 teacup stingray that has been living with them for about 6months.not even a nip from the jardini.

I rekon it just on the timing and the past of the Jardini.. i got mine from a LFS and he was picked on by Red Devils and Synspilum when he was 8".. now he is about 20" and he doesnt touch any fish in my tank.. Even the Red Devil is more aggressive! And! i dont feed it live food very often.. i just feed it Hikari floating pellets..

This is what i have in my 6 foot tank.. 2 7"Oscars.. 1 8"Red Devil.. 1 5"Eat Biter (Compessiceps) i think thats how you spell it.. 2 10"Pleco.. 1 3"Cuckoo.. 1 5"FeatherFin.. 2 6"Silver Sharks (Bala).. 1 4"Salmon Tail Catfish.. 1 Synspillum.. 1 6"Blood Parrot..

And it has never attack any of them..

i have had a jardini for over 6 years now and i have put many tank mates in with him some have lived and some have died. so far the list of tank mates have been austrian sturgon/ silver arrowana/tea cup stingray/ saber tooth barracuda/red tail barracuda/ common pleco/peacock bass/green arrowana / and a super red arrowana. my green and my super red were moved to other tanks due to the jardini being a prick and munchin on fins he did this from 6" and up. the tea cup was left alone never a problem. the sturgons were left alone but i belive this was due to the fact i had to drop the temp of the water to keep them both in the same tank. arrowanas grow real slow in cold water fyi. both of the barracudas where never killed but i think that was just because there fast as ****. they were chased frequently tho. and my poor friendly pleco was found in the mouth of the jardini one day walkin in from work 12" jardini with a 12" pleco in its mouth kinda funny to look at but still irritating to lose a fish

If I get a jar, I think I'm going to try some tinfoil barbs with him, see what his reaction is.
Then I might try a giant gourami if he doesn't bother the tinfoils.

I'm must been lucky with my jardini.. I have a Jardini for about 5 year now (21 inches)and all the tankmates I had before, he really didn't kill anything except for feeder. I house him in a 300 gallon now with 18 inch gar, 11 inch ornate bichir, royal pleco, tiger shovelnose, and a marble cat. :D

Hi all,

Yep I quickly browse through all 26 pages of postings.

Well I purchased my Jardini slightly over a year ago. It was about 17". I feed my jar with mostly feeder fish till it got too expensive. Now I feed my jar with market prawns and occasionally feeder fish.

Well the reason being my silver sharks housed in another tank of mine are currently outgrowing the tank. I have 13 of them ranging from 7" to 13". I was thinking of putting all of them with my Jardini.

At present the Jardini is housed alone in a 6'(L) x 2.5'(w) x 2.5'(H). My jar has been living alone for slightly over a year now. Would it be a bad idea to add tank mates? As this is the largest tank I have. Unless I move all my silver shark with my kois instead...(but it won't be visible - as silver sharks are viewed from sides...whereas kois are view from the top)

Please advise. Should I give it a go?

Cheers!!

The 13" silver sharks may be alright to be kept with your jardini. Silver sharks are very fast so they should be able to evade your jardini. I personally wouldn't risk the 7" sharks though. Perhaps grow them more with the koi?

The problem that I see occurring is the constant harassment that jardini tend to do.

I have kept large silver sharks before, not with jardini but with other large preds and have found that silver sharks really freak out when constantly harassed/chased. This often ended up with them smashing into the glass lids and killing themselves. Silver sharks are really wimpy fish.

I seem to see every very concern about having Jar with tank mate. Yes it's a fact where Jar is a killer and will destroy his/her tank mates for sure.

But what about the acception of rules? I have seen a lot of members here keep/kept they Jar with other tank mate.

Please share your experience about Jar you have with tank mate.

I currently got 15-16" Jar right now with my 2 large ST's and 2 Rays..Never see them fight. However I used to have a 15-16" Lei Aro that the Jar beating him up and force him to jump.

Does Jar are aggressive toward some species or every species? Share your experience please.

i tried havin my jar with a pleco, only took two days and the pleco was a casualty.....
