"Tankmates"?

You could go the route of a completely aquatic turtle, and then say an arborel snake or chameleon. I'd just make sure you have plenty of braches covering the water area, so the snake/chameleon doesn't drown(chameleons are that dumb to drown themselves)

Dude if your into glass lizards get yourself some scheltopusik you wont regret, they are super hardy and trully nice lizards that dont anywere deserve the under dog possition they so often face. I would love to get a few but they are allmost unobteinable here because the people that brougth them cheaply in the past dint care about breeding:(

Would the Sheltopusik know how to deal with a pond if there was one in it's enclosure? If I did a larger tank with a land/water set up with some fish or an aquatic turtle, would it be at risk of drowning itself?

I wouldn't risk a deep pool. 2-3" max. You could conceivably keep guppies or similar in that, but the tendency of most herps to defecate in their water dish could make that unpleasant for the fish, and the fish would make it more difficult for you to clean the dish. Definitely no turtles.

The suggestion of getting a pair and breeding them seems like an interesting idea as well...Anyone have experience with breeding them?

Bad idea generaly speaking, the only way I think it would work would be in a ginormous rainforest enclosure with matas and chondros but no chams

A small water basin for him yes but no ponds, needs a semi moist wood/grassland enclosure like you would setup for many ratsnakes and NO multiple species combo with these guys, they are both predatory and sesitive to things such as patogens other animals may have, a big pond would create to much moist. These are regal reps by their own rigth and deserve a enclosure specificaly designed to their needs

Few people will awnser, these are RARE animals both in europe and in the US, even if in the last country they can still be sold relatively cheaply and free of regulations. I was fortunate enough to hold a copple a few times at a friends place and a big tame one is a DELIGTH to hold. And they are no easy to breed either but really most people that had them dint try hard enough, but it may take many years to get consistent results, this guys grow and mature very slowly. By the way be ready for quite a commitement, these are reportadly some of the most long living lizards and ages of 50years old in captivity are not unherd of. If you want both a project and a unique species that you can consetrate on these is the lizard for you, just remenbar they are in need of help and that unless somebody starts to bred them consistently they may be gone from our hobby wich would be a shame. By the way if you can house them outdoors for some part of the year that is a good way to achieve good breeding results

Oh and by the way you will need more then a pair, if you could buy like 4-6 that would give you a good jump start. Not all single male-female combos work

I won't be in a position to do this for a while, but I just figure that gives me time to collect as much info on them as possible. What size enclosure would I need to keep 4 of them? Would a 75 gallon tank work? What should I expect in terms of trying to breed them - anything specific I would need to do for them?
