Target Training

Anyone ever target train any of their fish? My fish are all small and not willing to come out and eat let alone target. I know Oscars are intelligent enough to do it, but anyone actually do it here? I have don't it on other types of animals (Opossum, chinchilla, porcupine) and seen it done on some of the other animals in our collection (Siberian Tiger, Serval, Binturong, Tamarins, Coatis, Otters, Capybaras)

I was just wondering if anyone has had success with it. If you don't know what it is, I will tell you later, but I have to work on a research paper about Bird Flu now

Not really sure what you mean.. BUT, if you mean train your fish to grab food.
Well yes.
I have taught Archer fish to spit water.
Oscars to jump from the water to grab food from my hand. Had a mate who taught his oscar to pull a string which was attached to a bell whenever he wanted food or interaction.
Also taught one of my oscars to throw ping pong balls. Which if you to a search on MFK you should find another thread with somebody else who taught their oscar to do the same thing.

Target? Anytime I feed my Oscar, I am the target. I have had bags of food knocked out of my hand several times.

I have not trained my dog since she is a Jack Russel and has ADHD, but the porcupine and opossum respond well. Basically, they do an action, get a reward. It is stimulation.

I trained my oscar to ring a bell when she was hungry. Wasnt that hard at all, but got annoying so i took it away

I could see that being the means of me getting rid of a fish.

Just dangle a treat with your hands 2-5 inches over the water line....It may take a week or two, cut down on feedings to get him hungry enough to jump for the food....I've done this successfully with Midas and Oscars numerous times....In fact, I had no intention of "training" them, they simply jumped up for my food...

cool, thanks. im gonna try it with my Blue gill or any other fish in the tank that wants to eat.
