Teacup Stingray not eating & now curling

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 2 cents.... The temp didn't kill it. 72 is a tad low but it wouldn't kill the ray. 75, 76 is fine for a ray to live in as a "healthy" ray is pretty resilient.
A 2 degree drop is not going to kill a fish. Especially over a 24hr period.

He might not have been healthy when you got him. Also what is that big star wars toy in there?? Could be a chance it is messing with your water.

Overall what I have learned from rays and loosing them is number 1 thing to be completely prepared and ready and remove all possibilities of something affecting the ray and giving it the exact environment it needs to the best of your capabilities. It seems once you give them what they need they are actually pretty hardy and easy to keep. Jaeger heaters have always been a fail safe heater for me.

So get set up properly and go buy another ray :)

I"m sorry for your loss :( Try to isolate the variable where the mistake was made and correct it, then try again.

Was the heater you were using covered? At a temp like 72, I imagine maybe you weren't using a heater?

Things I've learned keeping rays.

1. Always use a heater cover, better yet keep the heater in the sump
2. Always use a heater controller, too many heaters get stuck in the "ON" position when they die and make fish soup.
3. use multiple heater and pumps. Redundancy is mandatory for anything with a life sparing function as every piece of equipment will eventually fail and who knows where you'll be when that pump finally burns out.

Good luck and don't be afraid to try again, retics are known to be difficult when acclimating.
