Hey my LFS has a teacup stingray and i wanna buy it but i dont know if its worth getting for 70$. im just wondering if anyone knows a better place to buy them for cheaper or a different stingray to buy??

well sorry to say but if you are asking this question then you havent done any research and most likely lose the ray. i would suggest starting with the stickies and do some searches and then decide on if a ray is right for you.

lol i have done some research i do before i buy every fish. im asking on here first so i can get some ideas i have all the right set ups for the ray and i already have been looking at what they need. my question was do i really need to buy the teacup at 70$ or should i buy a different one. and dont be so quick to assume that over the internet. i have been keeping fish for over 10 years now also i have the right set ups im just asking a simple question of are they worth 70$ or can they be cheaper. and reason for that is because i dont NOT trust my LFS they always have ick problems there and i dont want to buy a ray from them if i have to treat it right when i get the ray otherwise no point in buying it.

The reason jeffers probably suspects you haven't done enough research is that there is no stingray species called "Teacup" - and that's about the first thing most people probably learn when they're researching rays.

Perhaps you should find out what ray it actually is and ask your question again. We can guess - and in which case, the answer is: $70 is too high.

Research would also tell you ich isn't likely to be a problem with rays.

I bought one(reticulated) from local fish store just over a year ago. It was $60 but on sale for ~$42.00. I made sure it was eating. It is now about 10 inches in dia. and doing well. Since it was wild caught took a poop sample to my vet to check for parasites. It had one but he had some medicine mixed and it got rid of them. He likes eating nightcrawlers and goes thru 7 a day. If your tank shape is within the parameters to handle the size, they are an great pet.

lol there is a stingray called teacup look it up and im not causing any fights just asking not to assume that i dont know what im talking about thats all. and i have a 155gallon fish tank 2ft wide 30"tall 4ft long its a nice tank substrate is sand (good for stingrays) also two heaters covered up so it wont burn the ray and other fish. also overflow to skim to the top of the water it looks nice im happy with the set up. and the tank its in makes me mad because its with some fish that have ich im more worried about it getting parasites.

FLORIDAGAR- There is no such thing as a teacup ray. The ray you are talking about is most likely a reticulated ray scientific name Potamotrygon Reticulata. They are commonly called teacups by distributers and LFS. These rays are often neglected for weeks and poorly cared for. They will be shipped 2-5 times with out any food and often caryy parasites. To be honest $70 for a reticulated ray is not a good deal but there are few cases it is get us a picture!
