okay, totally honest opinion:

I think that it is going to work great and your Tegu will absolutely love it but at the same time, it seems like an eyesore. I understand that you are not experienced with building things (and believe me neither am I) but I think that if you slow down and try and make it look nicer with another layer of paint or laminate. I just think that since it looks like you have such a nice house, you should make your Tegus house look just as nice.

I am not trying to bash you or anything and I really think that you are doing a much better job than I could and certainly much more quickly than I could. No hard feelings. Just constructive criticism.

No your totally right. Now that the cage is inside and mostly assembled I am going to really polish things off. We do have some nice beige interior paint I was going to use but we need it for the living room. the cage is in the basement and nobody comes down here so I am not too worried but I do want it too look nice. Please believe it still has some ways to go. Now that the drylock and killz is on I am not as worried about fumes so when I can I do plan to re-paint the exterior as well as do a few other things. I am also going to get caster wheels for the bottom. Will make life a bit easier. One of the reasons I left the top off. My room will be real junky for a while thoug lol.

Well lucky for me we still have some of the beige paint left and I am going to paint the xterior later today! Hopefully it will look nice. Will post pics later.

Its coming out nice your tegu will love the room . Have you considered a shelf maybe a ramp going up to a shelf ?

I just threw that in there to complicate things lol . All kidding aside a shelf of some sort will give extra things for him to do,climb on and provide over head shelter that he might like to sleep under.

If you like the red than stay with red . Its a loud red but the tegu couldnt care less and again your cage.

If you have beige and you like beige it might be better ;).

Okay, that is a relief then. I hope it turns out great!

@Louie-thanks for being so considerate but I was probably going to change the color anyway. A shelf in the enclosure wouldn't be possible. With 1ft of substrate, there is only 2ft of head room and his mercury vapor bulb has to be a certain distance from the basking spot(like 18-24"). All he needs is dirt trust me. With enough dirt he's got all the entertainment in the world. I will add branches and what not to the enclosure though to make it look natural.

Well painting has been delayed because I really want to get those caster wheels first so I will wait for that. Moved rileys enclosure. I had to wake him up when he was sleeping and he was not happy about that at all. I have never heard him hiss before but he did a little bit today. He also slapped his tail at me. I fed him superworms to calm him down and after a while he calmed right down. The leoprd geckos are int the adjacent room infront of the fish tank and my room is an utter mess! But I have to wait to get some supplies before I continue.

if you dont mind waiting an extra week or two before adding him I would suggest covering the dirt in grass seed and get it get good and long and the roots deep, this will help with burrows, make it look cool and he'll love it

Awesome idea! I'll have to do that once I finally get to do a terrarium for a reptile...

That bright red caught me off guard too :P Exterrior coloration is completely subjective, so I wouldn't 'complain' about it. But it's surely not what I would have selected for my home ;)

It is definitely a rough build, but it is your first of this magnitude. I see no reason for you to feel anything but proud of what you've done. Keep collecting those 'tips' and keep putting them into action. Your projects will continually improve.

This project does seem to have what it needs to provide your Tegu with a very happy home.

I put a shelf in my 8x3. Despite Tegus being terrestrial animals, I find mine is eager to climb around low lying obstacles such as couches, chairs and tables. I also plan to 'decorate' mine with a couple of large logs. I feel providing an "over there" will help keep the Tegu from getting bored.

You are definitely on the right track to both provide your Tegu an excellent environment as well as to become an expereinced DIY'er. Keep up the good work!
