Tell me about Tropheus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have 6 tropheus Moorii in a 40 breeder, they are about 4in maybe a little bigger, and they are doing awesome. I started with 6 and still have the same 6. TONS of rock work though, once in awhile they mess each other up alittle but they are breeding very good for me, and they look awesome. I have been told though that my tank might be an exception to the rule.

is there anything else in your tank other than the trophs? He wants to put it with his setup and fish. We need to see all issues of compatibility... anyone have a mix of haps, peacocks, and mbuna with them...

no they are solo, besides the various syno cats. I dont think people mix them to often with the Mbuna, even the Malawi cichlids in general, since they are Tangs.

I had a single Tropheus duboisi Kigoma in a Hap/Peacock tank. He was a bit on the aggressive side; nothing serious but it did take away from the relative peace in the tank. Unfortunately he died from bloat.

I am trying again; this time with a beautiful Tropheus moorii. He's doing well so far and no signs of aggression between him and any of the Lake Malawi cichlids.

How many Trop. could I stock in a 50gl for life?

General Tropheus guidelines...
Aquarium has to be 80 gallons or up (best is 105 gallon or up).
Length of the aquarium should be at least 5 feet.
Minimum group should be 12.
There should be a minimum of 6.6 gallons per fish available.

That's the data I trust, and why I haven't yet got any Tropheus yet. (I can't place a tank that big.)
