They are in a 750 US gallon tank, it's footprint is 10' x 4'
I've not got a clue how old they are i've not had the pleasure of raising them from small - any best guesses at their age?
Anyone know how many inches the biggest tem raised in captivity is? surely they don't keep growing :O
They can sure eat a lot, the smaller Tem swallowed most my 18" silver arowana before spitting it back out, it survived though and he's not done it since.
i didn't quite anticipate how predatory these are though, a 12" Orino was beaten to death, a 10" Azul was gobbled whole and i had to sell an Azul and Kelberi to ensure their safety.
I feared the life of my 20" Aimara when he first went into the tank, he was chased relentlessly and bitten at.
The most amount of food i've given in one go is 1200 grams of fish but that was for the whole tank and the Niger catfish can get down a fair amount of food, i've seen the smaller Temensis take 3 mackerels to himself though.
In terms of diet it's always prawns, mussels, massivore, floating Hikari and either Mackerel or White fish.
Yes it's good to be mindful of their eventual size because these are seriously large fish
