To add to the confusion.. pics @4" Which made me think Mono variant/hybrid..
 
i vote hybrid of some sort....

tems at that size have a totally different body shape imo

shape of a mono, look of a tem....= hybrid

Unfortunately I can't.. Soon after those pics it left my house for Li's house and has been with him until yesterday. And he has so many pbass and pbass pics I'm not sure if he has anymore pics of that fish. I don't know about grown rate but it has grown less than an inch a month, since I gave it to him last december at 5" or so and then got it back yesterday at 14" maybe?

I originally sold him 2 from the same batch. He gave me back one yesterday and I don't know if he has the other one still or if it died somehow?

Like I said if the experts that visit this thread can't figure it out I'll try to get an in water pic from the side..

OK THAT RIGHT THERE EXPLAINS IT!!!!

Li can't even remember where most of his cichla are from. I bet your fish is a mono and grew up a mono and Li must have mistaken the temensis for your fish.

Sigh we will never know. Li has a bad tracking system for his cichla and rarely takes pics!

hmm... maybe it got lost in the mix..Went in a mono came out a neoensis. Li did have 60+ pbass at one time.

I think he's kept track. Because I remember right before they left for li's they started getting all the gold on them and the speckling coming through. I know I don't have proof but I'm almost 100% this is the same fish.

I bet that is what happened. Lost in the mix then grabbed the tem by mistake. Li got so many cichla even wild ones that he cant remember which ones are from what location.

I talked to Li recently about his Cichla collection. The only ones he's sure of what it is and from where it is. Is his Golden Azuls. He made of that everything else was mixed.
