My tank is 200 gallons with a 80 gallon sump. The top of the tank is all closed off with no openings. The sump is open top inside the stand. I am running air wands in the bio chamber for aeration and a submersible pump in a separate chamber. My problem is the pump keeps the water at 90 degrees. I have no room in the setup to run an external pump. All of my rays seem happy along with my datnoids. What effects will 90 degree water have long term on my rays? I know rays like warmer water but 90 seems way to high to me. Current pump is 3400 gph. I could down size but then I will lose turn over rate. Any thoughts?

i dont know to much about sumps but that is really hot, i keep my tanks around 82 and i thought i was pushing it lol

I'de try a fan to get air to the open top sump. Get some fresh air under that stand. That sounds to me like your best option for dispersing the heat that I'm suspecting is a result of your pump..... Assuming you've allready unplugged all the heater to verify it's not a heater malfunction.

Can you post some pics of the sump? How does the water get to the sump? Anyway to prolong contact time the water has wiuth the air on the way down to the sump?

I ran into the same thing in my pond and found I could drop the temp by having the return from the sump above the waterlevel (like a waterfall).

During the summertime my system will stay around 86-88 and the rays don't seem to mind at all, More aggression and they eat more buts that about it. 90 is high I would try get down to mid 80's

Here is the sump pic when I first started the system up. The water comes into the sump on the left through two 1 1/2 inch pvc pipes. The pump is on the far right. The sumps stays 3/4's full at all times. I had thought about the fan idea but space is limited. The only things I can think of are A. smaller pump B. lowering the water in the sump C. raising the pump up on a small stand to get the motor portion out of the water. Also all heaters have been unplugged since first of may.

If it was mine...... I'de loose a stand door and boxfan that thing.

But then again that's me and cosmetics is second to health.

thats what i had to do to mine.... i would run upwards of 94.... and do massive water changes to cool it off... i would run through and check you heaters cause one 250w was heating my water to 90

Heaters have been unplugged since May. Rays do not seem stressed so there is plenty of O2 in the water. I think I am going to raise the pump up so that only the lower 1/3 is in the water. I left both doors open last night is a fan blowing and it was still 90 this morning.
