Temperature Issues

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have the same problem my tank runs at 86-88 all the time never had any problems

my heaters are never on only at water changes

if you do 2 x water changes per week it should bring the temp down long enought for the heat not to have any effects

i gave up stressing over heat long ago

You could plumb the return line to run through an aluminum heater core with a fan on it!

It would work like a radiator to get rid of the heat. What's the air temp of the room?

Here is the sump pic when I first started the system up. The water comes into the sump on the left through two 1 1/2 inch pvc pipes. The pump is on the far right. The sumps stays 3/4's full at all times. I had thought about the fan idea but space is limited. The only things I can think of are A. smaller pump B. lowering the water in the sump C. raising the pump up on a small stand to get the motor portion out of the water. Also all heaters have been unplugged since first of may.

is that a sump pump like the kind from lowes? if so i had one and they run very hot, try a mag drive pump that solved my problem

It is a Cal Pump model PW3500. I do not know if it is a mag drive or not.

Never heard of a Danish Grundfoss pump!

you could also try to put an inlet tube on your pump and get the pump out of the water if you seal it properly with big enough pipe or tube it won't effect the flow much ! just seal it right and shouldn't raise temp much if the pump is out of the water !!

Space is tight on this setup. I raised the pump 4 inches last night and the water held steady at 90 degrees. I raised it another 3 inches tonight so that only 4 inches of the pump is in the water. Hopefully it will drop to the mid 80's. The high temp might be the reason my rays like to bite each other.
