just got home from work to find that my tank temp jumped from 87 to 95! the glass was warm to the touch.

fish are still acting normal.. but Im still concern.

I turned the heater down to 80 to see if the would bring down the heat... but I dont want the tank to get too cold either.

Ideas or suggestions of why this may be happening?

my house is its normal temp, so it just seems odd. Perhaps the heater is malfunctioning?

thought that would be the case. i dont have another one at the moment... but i dont want the tank to get any hotter..

should I just pull out the malfunctioning one, and wait until tomorrow when I can bring one home from work?

I dont feel its a good idea to risk leaving it in there, incase it just keeps getting hotter...

I would unplug that heater ASAP. I'm surprised your fish are still alive. What are you keeping that requires you to keep the tank at 87F? What size is your heater? If it's undersized and having to work too hard to maintain that temp then that might explain why it crapped out on you.

i have a couple of baby pbass in there. a user on here told me that baby pbass prefer a temp around 87.

the heater is unplugged.

the bass are about 6-7" now.
