yeah dude very nice !!!!!!!!

I agree with Scubarod - also, anyone that has kept a nicely sized male Chocolate will know that they do grow 'humps'; not your typical bulging Nuchal hump. Think of it as something similar to many members of the genus Gymnogeophagus. Just because they are not the size of your aggressive male devils etc. doesn't mean they can't be known for it.

My old male with a few marks and a few tail tears in his new owners tank. Easily 2" wide.

no doubt, you have a beautiful fish there, and Chocolates defnitely have a unique dignity and look about them . . . as for developing the fatty hump, I obviously can see what you're getting at, but it doesn't seem particularly dramatic . . . my Port Cichlid has the same thing

you're right, when someone says "nuchal hump" - - or "cichlid hump" - - my mind goes to something like a Midas or Red Devil, or the GT . . . what the Chocs develop, in my opinion, is a) nothing close to that, and b) a whole lot more attractive :D

Yeah, I think the giant "koks" are hideous, which is why I don't keep most of those types of fish. :D The humps you see on male SA cichlids tend to just be fat/bulky heads, which usually goes hand in hand with a fat, chunky body. You can see this on chocolates, psittacus, some uaru... even some big discus and angelfish get a really prominent forehead. I'd say it's usually a male thing, but I have seen females that look this way too.

The pictures posted have been terrific. I never knew that Chocs could get so colorful. I guess I've only seen immature ones in person. I had a chance to acquire a larger one and passed on it because of its drab color. That will be a noted mistake from this point on.

Mine changes its colors a lot based on mood. Sometimes it's a very bright green with a purple face, sometimes it's maroon all over... I should probably get another chocolate so I can see them interact. The following four pictures are of the same fish... the first is when I got it about a year ago, the second is after a few weeks of settling in, and the other two are from a few minutes ago (flash and no flash).

My guess is that it's a female. After a year, she's still only about 7" or so, plus her face stayed fairly slim compared to some of the other chocolates I've seen. Also, my other female fish hate her. I've never seen my female Atabapo severum go after male fish, but she goes after the chocolate constantly.
