Tems growth rate???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my tems are now 8".
they were less than an inch in september last year.
that was with feedings once a day only.
and when they were little i didnt do many water changes.

Are Temensis as sensitive as the usual Florida hybrid pbass you get at most LFS? I'm just kinda curious as to how sensitive they are. The ones I ordered are 3". I guess they're feeding them live fishes now, I plan on feeding them guppies or rosy reds to stabilize them. I then hope to feed them live ghost shrimp and hopefully weening them onto krill and pellets. Is there really a size at which they cannot be turned onto frozen/prepared foods? I know pbass can be really stubborn about not eating live food but I don't want to risk disease and breaking my bank account feeding them live.

that tem will outgrow that 180 in about 1.5 years

I don't see how the tem will outgrow the 180. If he gets to about 2' he will still be fine in my 180 b/c the width is about 24" wide.

depended on how you see it. is your tank 72" x 24" x 24" = 180 gal ??

assuming your tamensis really reaches to 2' = 24", it will be 1/3 the length of your tank.

you can sit back look at your tank now and imagine that picture.

My tank is about 79 X 24 X 24. Yeah he would take up a lot of space in there. But I think he should be fine.

haha... you are determined to get temensis.

I have people tell me don't do this and don't do that... sometimes you will just have to DIY and see what happen. Maybe you will find a way others can't to handle about this monster.

I don't know that I would keep a 24" Tem in a 220, basically I don't want them beating themselves to death in a tank that's too small. I think I will grow the Tems out to 18" in the 220 and then by then I'll hopefully have a larger tank. I'm thinking either a plywood tank or an acrylic one that would be 8' x 3'. That's the size I'm set on.

obviously you've never spent any time in prison.

period point blank active fish need enough room to be active. just because it can turn around in the tank by folding itself in half doesnt mean that it should have to.
