ten gallon tank ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im gonna check with my lfs and see if those small african cichlids are dwarf or not, if they are i might get one, but im just considering hanging up that tank now. as it wont be long until i will be moving out and it would be more of a hassle and i really dont have the money to fund that tank. i mean i have a job that ill be doing soon, but im not sure if i want to spend my money on that small tank, or if i should just save it and wait til i get some 180g tanks in a place i know ill be staying for a long time (it would really suck to have to move some nice setups...). i could clean the tank, but it like really dirty, and im not sure if it would be worth cleaning or if i should just get another one if i need it down the road (as they dont cost alot). input?

swordtails won't really like the water parameters either....and i doubt you can order them sexed
As far as the sexing, don't see why you couldn't if thier older. Sexing is easy, in fact you could do it yourself as long as thier like 3/4 grown, with a "sword" caudal fin indicates male, without, female...if you have any local fish stores, chances are they have these so there would be no need to order them, however like Austin said, i wouldn't be mixing the two types of fish.

if you want something besides fish, red eye tree frogs are beautiful and stay small enough to live in a ten gal for life.

im not concerned about swordtail sexing, i can tell that, i was worried about the shellies breeding as i have no room for any fry. im considering just taking down the tank and only worrying about my 56g tank.

If you want something super simple but pretty for a ten gallon how about some easy plants and a pearl gourami, or some sparkling gouramis,

Or a male betta and some plants you could also add some kuhli or yoyo loaches to the bottom layer more than likely. My bettas have done fine with gentle non aggressive tankmates.

or a Bolivian or german ram pair

there are several small tetras such as orange von rio or panda that could manage in a school of 5 in a ten gallon.

or harlequin rasboras, they arent much to see in the store but color up nicely once settled into a healthy tank.

ok. im still contemplating my tank, ill have to visit my lfs and see what happens and ill decide there.

i think what im gonna do though is hang up and clean my ten gallon tank and use the filter on my big tank as extra filtration. i really dont have money to run the tank and it wouldnt be running for long b4 id have to take it down, sorry.
