So does it make me incompetent or a washout since I have shot a person dog before in after giving 3 verbal warnings to put the dog in the house or on a lease cause it kept wanting to attack people? There is more to the story before you point your finger. I've never heard of someone shooting a dog out here because of it barking but I've see the videos where SWAT teams or a raid team has entered a house and have shot a dog that came running at them. In many cases people do use dogs to guard there places for a reason that are trained for more than just pets. From what I have found out first hand most dogs do not like pepper spray so yes there was alternatives but its not always an option.
yes it kinda does. there are many options before u revert to that. sometimes it is nessicarry. I work side by side with law enforcement. I have never met an officer that felt they were forced to shoot a dog. they used a thing called a tazer. Now if u dont have that, use the pepper spray u do have.
Just recently an officer in the town right next to me shot a dog. Why? not because it was charging, not because he was in danger, but because he felt there was something suspicious goin on in the back yard, and the dog was barking at him.
He was found to be in the wrong and the town reimbersed the family who were innocent of any and all crimes and were just in the back yard.
So u said u never have heard of such a story? U just did.
That bein said there are times it are neccesary, but there are other options first. Such as pepper spray, tazer and

ANIMAL CONTROL!! have them come do thier job.
I had a call recently were 2 huge dogs(great danes) tryd to attack an old lady. Her nieghbor(a retired cop) grabed his shotgun, and while holding the gun in one hand grabed a shovel with the other hand and kept the dogs back. Could he have shot the dogs? yeah. but intsead Animal control came and did thier job and captured the dogs.

The ex cop felt that it was unnessicary to shoot the dogs.
