I have 112 Gallon tank, with 1x severum 1x Texas 1x Geo Sp 2x Geophagus Brasiliensis (breeding) 1x Firemouth. They are all about 1" in size the Firemouth and Severum are 3-4".

I know i should either stick to Central/South American, but is there any chance they might grow together and not fight?

Or does anyone have a better stocking idea?

Thanks.

im not sure about the stocking, i guess it all depends on if your fish are fighting with each other and showing high amounts of aggession, or if they are some-what co-existing just fine.

how are you breeding a 1" pair of G. Brasiliensis?

if tex is smaller than sev and the sev remains the boss then it should be alright but your tex may decide to pick on the more passive geos, also geos do well in groups of four or more so i would pick the one you like the best and get him some more friends and get rid of the others, and at one inch their is no way that your brasiliensis are breeding they are still babies, some people can make SA and CA work together you just have to watch out for aggression from the CAs GOOD LUCK

Geos are normally fairly passive, but brasiliensis are definitely an exception IME. A breeding will probably not be very kind to tankmates. If the tankmates are more passive, they might get killed by the brasiliensis, but if they stronger and fight back, the brasiliensis might end up the losers.

You guys are great, thanks. Okay, its just the person i got the brasiliensis off sent me photos of them with fry. But i could have been ripped off!

There is no fighting and yes the Severum does split any fights up, which to honest happen very rarely. But your all right if anyone starts its the Texas, but even then its only if it can be bothered.

I could'nt get rid of my Severum, but i would dearly love to start keeping some big Cichlids. The tank is; 72"x18"x24".

Would anyone give me a stocking list, which is exciting and yet offers me large to mid size Cichlids?

Thanks for all your help so far.

if you want other large/med CA cichlids then you would have to get rid of the geos and yeah i dont know what pic they showed you but if they are really only 1in than there is no way that they have bred, im not sure when these guys mature as iv never kept geos but i wouldnt think it would be till they reach at least 4-5in, if you get rid of the geos then you could do:
Sev
Tex
Firemouth
and pretty much any other cichlid you wanted that stayed under 16in like
Green Terror, jack Dempsey, Cuban, Red Terror, Salvinis, Argentea, and lots of others
could do 2 of those (single specimens if you want a pair of something then that changes what you could do, def dont do red terror pair unless you want the tank to eventually be just them) and then some kind of dither school and bottom dwellers (bichirs are SWEET could do a delhezi, ornate or senegals, or some kind of smaller catfish) as long as you start them out all small together then your chances of them getting along will be much better, and deco is always key. need to make sure youv got plenty of driftwood and hidy spots for fish to get away from each other and have their own little territories GOOD LUCK

Thanks, i'll post a pick soon so you can see it. Its pretty dull just now and has no hood, just a bloody 5ft luminaire that i can't hang cos the walls are crap and the ceiling is too high. My wife hates it cos it lets too much light in the room.

Did you mean just 2 of the list plus what i already have, excluding Geos?

I can't thank you enough this just the kind of info i've looking for!

Do you think i can get those species you mentioned in Scotland?

ok kewl and yeah i meant 2 from the list with cichlids you already have minus all the geos, im sure there are many other types you could put in there as well that someone could chime in with im just drawing a blank right now lol, n red terrors will probably be almost impossible for you to find, there is a guy on here that is in the process of hunting down some festae in ireland with no luck so far so i think they are not very common in UK area, not sure about the others though green terrors and dempseys should be easy enough to find they are very common fish so should be in scotland as well but no clue about the others, maybe you could talk with your lfs and see what they could order for you....
