Testing your LFS/petsmart's knowledge

When I worked at petsmart I had a fellow come in and start quizing me. He wanted to know all sorts of things, and everytime I answered him, he said I was wrong. Things like, you cannot stock a tank full immediately after setup. He said I was Wrong. Fish need filtration. No they don't. Oscars don't have to eat live goldfish. Thats all they'll eat! I finally told him that he was offending me, the customers, and if he wasn't buying, he needed to leave. He then said he wanted 50 neon tetras. I said what for, and he said "My angelfish will only eat neon tetras, they like the bright colors" I lost my patience, and told him he was an idiot, angelfish do not have color receptors in their eyes, they see in black and white. Also, neon tetras are not feeder fish. He went to the manager, which then took another 15 minutes to explain the situation, and he was asked to leave the store.
The point is, if you troll for knowlegeable employees, make sure you yourself know what your talking about. Otherwise you will seem a tool.

when i first got into this hobby i bought a bichir which the guy told me was a snakehead, so for the week and a half after I was going around telling my friends I had a crazy amphib that can eat rats, so much for nothing,......

I work at a Petsmart and IMHO you guys that "test" us piss me off....Don't harrass me about fish keeping. No one knows absoulutley everything about this hobby I'm sure there are Discus breeders that don't know squat about Bichirs and vica-versa. Truth is if you keep testing minimum wage workers once you find one that is knowledgeable you may be too condiscending to realize it....Just walk into a store get what needs getting and leave....

PS: Plus what if there is a newbie that's still looking up their stuff online. And that only know the basics? Harassing them to the point of insult may discourage them to leave the hobby when they just barely got in? That my friend, makes this hobby die. Because rather than giving them a chance to learn on their own, you had to degrade them for your own pleasure.

There is smart petsmart people at my petsmart, I think they were a little stubborn, because they wouldn't let me buy a needle nose gar because I had a 1 foot clown loach in a 90 tall!
