Tetracycline useless in 8.0ph?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you cant find the Malachite green right now then you can use the stuff in the super ich cure. Most of its a mix of M. Green and Formalin. It CAN be mixed with the Tripple sulfa without issues. I would dose on the lighter side or half dose of the Super Ick cure. Then do the full dose of the Tripple sulfa. I feel the tripple sulfa is the more important of the two of these. Be sure to follow the directions of the tripple sulfa completley and do the water changes and repeate dosages as specified. Make sure to fully dose till they say to and repeate if nessacary. The Tripple sulfa will also NOT harm your Benificial bacteria either. Tom may dissagree with my thoughts, and again im betting he is smarter then I am (not to say im dumb lol). You could also just try doing the Tripple sulfa on its own.

Well I couldn't get the super ich cure as I have zero dollars left this week. I've gotten the triple sulfa though.

So as I read further into medications and Ph compatibility I have found that minocycline(maracyn2) and tetracycline are useless in my Ph. Is there a thread with this being discussed so I can be fully aware?
I have found a few lists on the web but I want all the knowledge I can gather on this so I don't make the same mistake twice at the possible cost of a fish's life.

If you have the sulfa use it. You can also salt the water with it.

Trust me I don't think I'm smarter than anyone, fish Diseases, Conditions and cures is just somthing I find interesting so I read alot about it. Most Vets don't know much about fish issues unless you find one that's a fellow hobbist so unfortunately we are left on our own to figure alot of this stuff out. I'm always worried I'm going to give the wrong advise. In most cases we have a discripton and a photo to go off of and some photos and discriptions are better than others. We just try our best to help each other out. It's not easy, some symptoms are so similar, without being in the room with the fish (and even then) you can easly mistake one issue for another and advise the wrong treatment. I try to error on the side of caution. Prevention is always better than having to treat. QT of new fish, water changes, filter maintanance and substrate cleanning is a lot of work but treating and possibily loosing a fish is harder IMO. Somtimes even after our best efforts things happen.

I totally agree with everything you just said. Prevention is the best cure. I run a strict aquarium maintenance routine here but slacked in the qt department and that was my downfall. We are always learning and I'm glad there are people out there like you guys to help direct with experience.

I totally agree with you Tom. Like you I have a lot of the same interests in diseases, conditions and treatments. Everything you mention I totally feel and believe.

Alright, I have had carbon running in one of my filters for more than 24 hours and have changed 90% of the water in 15-20 gallon intervals in a 24 hour period also. The water is still tinted red from the tetracycline and some foamy bubbles from it remain. Is it safe to dose with triple sulfa? My common sense says no as the signs of tetracycline are still there. Should I wait another 24 hours with a few more water changes before?

More carbon.. In this case the more carbon you can get water to cycle through the better because it will soak that stuff up. Bigger water changes in one time will also dillute it faster. But no Not yet I wouldnt. Get more out.

My water should be like I never put the tetracycline in before dosing correct?

For the most part yes. Most form of tetracycline do not act well when mixed with other drugs. Only one that's different is maracyn 2. I believe its mynicline. A form of tetracycline.
