black neons are only just over an inch long
japes is the man on this
but i think 50 is a bit extreme to maybe 30

its not the fact that he adding a ton of small fish to a good size tank. the tank is already overstocked as it is. trying to fit 30pounds of crap in a 10pound bag, somethings going to give. i have 5 large cichlids around 10" in my 125g, i couldn't imagine them crammed in a 75g

It would not be just the 30-50 tetras in a 75g.

It would be 30-50 tetras in addition to 13 fish that will soon be 8-10" long in a 75g.

I've given up on giving stocking advice in regards to quantity, people have predetermined mindsets and are difficult to sway on how many fish they keep in a certain tank so I concentrate on making sure that if a tank is going to be overstocked, it's done with the right fish.

Peathenster is definitely correct with how many are planned for this tank though, however the extra bio-load of a reasonably sized shoal of Tetra isn't the concern, and if I was to give advice on the tank as a whole I'd be mentioning the large number of Eartheaters, but the lack of a decently sized colony of any one species.

As per my previous Tetra advice, any of the larger growing high-bodied Hyphessobrycon sp. should do reasonably well in the tank. However, with that many fish in there, as well as possible aggression between Cichlids, there's not going to be a great deal of room for them to properly and comfortably navigate the tank with decent social structure. It will be patchy and probably not as fantastic to watch as a tightly knit group confident in their ownership of a certain region of the tank.

Japes is the man on what? Overstocking? Have you seen how many Geos Japes has in his 75g and thought about why they are doing so well?

I think lach's intended meaning was that I keep Tetra successfully with my Eartheaters, however you raise a good point about my 75G, which will very soon be a 125G 60x24x20" without any additional fish purely so I can have a little more width for the Eartheaters, but an extra 9" of width means the Tetra have a bit more manoeuvring room if the Eartheaters decide to have a play in the mid-levels of the tank.

i think your 75g is a bit better suited for your geos because you are keeping a smaller species in a 60x15 tank. it gives them more swimming room even with the 3" less width.

In that case my apologies. I was objecting to the mis-characterization of your stocking by your fellow countryman.

The OP is probably going to come back and say "I did not ask you about my current stock". So yeah.....
