Teug growth thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK, photos - and they are hard to see in person but Ziti DOES have a tiny external gill like some of the others do here. The one on the right is easy to see in pics but honestly blends in in person. There's also a tiny tiny one on the left.

So interesting to me that this species seems more likely to have or sprout them at this size.

From when I first got him a month ago.

And today, around an inch longer. Still has the blue-ish eyes - I wonder if those will stay.

External gill!

And just one of the anal fin, which still looks "in between" to me. Not as pointy as the (female) Polli, and not as wide as the (male) Moke but again the Teug is still small. What do you think?

A pretty active, friendly poly. Will come to me and follow my finger around. I'm really happy I picked this one up.

Ziti looks great. I really like maroon colors.

Thanks, yeah I like the maroon with the golden yellow belly.

I am thinking male too but we'll see.

+1 on their friendliness. Mine comes to the glass to visit and actively follows my finger as well. Of course, this makes me want to feed her more, so perhaps she's training me, rather than the other way around?

Ziti is really looking great Magpie. Great colour, pattern and healthy profile. I'm not sure about the sex either as there's not a whole lot developed at the fin base yet.

Can't tell on mine yet either, though I say female for the time being as she's too sweet and cute to be a boy, lol.

Mine came in with external Gills one longer then the other. They have been slowly disappearing. Both my delz had them when I got them too. First one disappeared pretty quickly the second kept them until she was around 8" but they were so tiny. The other day I went in there and locked gazes with the Teug and with the gills poking up and slightly curving in, the reddish color a name immediately came to mind.....Lucifer. Hope this doesn't jinx me. I haven't named many of the fish I have kept throughout my life, angler named scuba steve(wife), Oscar named Bob. Guess im gonna have to name them all now.

If you can't keep track of time you don't get poly pics. It's been 6 days :)

in that time it should of grown atleast half an inch

yeah I have a habit of naming all my favorite fish so the only bichir without a name is my ornate which I sometimes call onry but it doesn't really fit since he doesn't have the normal jerk tendencies of most ornates atleast yet
