wow amazing fish...thanks for all the post i am def. looking in to buying an escondido pair. i have a quick question though do the escondido's have a different mentality similar to how a EBJD would be more sensitive than a JD.? thanks for the pics

Not at all, Escondido's are a variety of carpintis from a specific collection locale, not line bred. They're quite hardy.
 
Here's some shots of my recently deceased Carpintes - my male black cat got'em, skined 'em like a fellet. The other is a red texas still king of the indoor pond and it's only inhabitant left thats not a turtle. Them turtles have done a number on this fishes scales. Both fish were removed from the pond for a photoshoot only then returned.
