I have seen Escondidos sold by Rapps-just a much more attractive and aggressive Texas cichlid.

I'm not sure were this much more aggressive information is coming from. My Escondido's are not any more aggressive then any other carpintis that I have ever kept.

useless comment...pictures? Info? Its a carpintis variant, right?

Texas cichlids are extremely aggressive fish in a persistant type of way. There temperment is very close to that of the Buttikoferi, they will terrorize there tank mates to death. On the flip side IMO they are one of the most beautiful fresh water fish. Mine was my favorite fish I ever owned. they grow pretty fast also, when I bought mine I purposely got him smaller then my other fish and put him in my 75 with a jack demsey GT and a few other similar fish, once he got equal to there size he started bullying, and quickly grew larger then his mates and turned into a real threat. almost killed my jack and a few others, so I had to put him a 55 buy his self. unfortunately he jumped out and died. but I would suggest a 75 and just keep an eye out for aggression. not trying to discourage by any means just something to lookout for but, if you can, GET ONE!!!!!

jgentry-have had all three and though the Escondido never ruled my tanks they were complete jerks. Anytime I introduced a new fish or a fish was sick or injured it was always the Escondido that would do the harrassing-my other Texans weren't like that. Still waiting on that lahilla-is it even a variant of a Texas?

yeah lago lahillas, not really anything special imo just a carpintis with big singular pearls, escondido ftw!!!!!
