She laid eggs but I'm not sure if she even let him do his thing. She is guarding them ferociously and he doesn't really bother her. I see 1 white egg as of right now. They were laid last night so I should be able to tell if they are fertalized tonight correct?

Here he is. He had a better kok when he had another male in the tank but he killed him.

They are both fairly young at about the 4" range. This is the first spawn for both.

Eggs gone this morning but they looked good last night. It looks like she is getting ready to lay again?!

Thanks for the advice. I didn't bother removing the slate and eggs as I thought it was strange she was defending the eggs and he was still flaring and displaying to her lol silly fish. She layer and didn't even give him a chance near them. Pretty new situation to me I've been keeping and breeding cichlids for over ten years and have never seen that. They are pairing a lot better now and they are digging many pits in sand and chasing plecos around the tank.

Fengshui I will be contacting you I will soon be on the lookout for something shortbody and super red!

Is the slate in the middle of the tank or a corner? If he can't get near the corner because of her you might want to try the middle of the tank so he has a better chance at it.

Yea the slate was in the corner. I figured she was laying for my huge male con in the tank next to theirs. I'm moving that tank soon and ive removed the plecos and driftwood that was in my tex tank. That tex is getting huge by the way. Pearly with red cheeks and red fins.
The kkp gets so fat and then lays her eggs and loses most of her girth. It's crazy. She looks about ready to go again.

So is she fertile? how many times you tried to spawn with her? Hey check out my girl kkp. Sorry I went a overboard on the length of time, but she makes it easy.
