Texas and kkp eggs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've removed everything from the tank except the slate and moved the other tank. She wasn't letting the male near the eggs so I don't know if she's fertile but i hope so. I think they have no choice but to get it right this next time. It would be a shame if she isn't fertile, she's getting nicer and better color as she grows. She's getting a little nuchal hump!

Still digging. The male is still displaying for her and she seems more interested.

IF the female lays eggs she is fertile :) If theres fertility problems its with the male and I doubt that hes sterile because hes just a texas. Sometimes it takes a few times to get it right.

Arrrrrr she laid eggs on the glass. I watched them for a bit. She doesn't really want him near the eggs but she's laying them anyways. I did see him get in there a couple times so I will leave them alone to figure it out.

She's got a few wigglers so far. Ya sveet!!! She's keeping the male away I may remove him before I kill their light tonight.

For as clueless she seemed with spawning she's doing an excellent job caring for her MASSIVE pile of wrigglers. I left a small lamp on for her last night as when I was going to bed she was still checking her wall of eggs for hatching fry and spitting them into the corner. I couldn't let her do that in the dark lol. I will remove most of the fry before they are free swimming.
The corner she's facing is where the fry are at.

Looking good, since she is caring for them I'd let her try raising them for awhile. Or at the most pull half the babies and let her keep half and give her a chance to raise them up. My female green terror did fine raising them up, I pulled half once and I did worst than she did with them but we were moving and I needed to get everyone moved quickly, the babies I left in the tank during the move only had an inch of water and when she got back in there she rounded them all up again.

She's doing a really good job so I may just put sponges on the filter intakes and let her handle it for awhile. Removing the babies always makes me feel bad anyways. I have a 40 breeder ready for their initial grow tank but with this large of a spawn I don't think it will be sufficient for as long as I had hoped.
