so i have a 7 - 8 inch texas cichlid and she has killed everything except my pleco(he don't take ***** from no one) so anyways.... she can't be kept with anything... she laid eggs while living with my dempsey and when he didn't breed with her he died real quick.... so then this pet store tells me to buy there midas cichlid and it's the badest thing ever and texas cichlids aren't agressive blah blah blah... he was 2 inches bigger and died within a week and half ( too bad real nice gold crown...i would have saved him if i was home when it happend) i rearranged the tank before i put him in and even took my texas out in the process. i was wondering what can i do to put another fish in the tank... should i try to maybe get a breeding pair going? or just leave her in alone with the pleco... she is one of the prettiest cichlids i have seen and getting rid of her is out of the question. im just wondering if anyone has any ideas i could do to have another tank mate... i don't want to kill another fish my girlfriend was woken up to her slamming the dempsey into the tank she could hear the slams all the way from the bedroom(tank is in kitchen far away) and the midas wasn't pretty to come home too... she also likes to attack hands in tank and will slam head first and flare out gulping(u can hear it) if someone comes up to the tank not shaking the pellet bag(she surprisingly knows when your feeding her) any thoughts would be appretiated.... i realise i am probably stuck with just her and the pleco but that is fine, since i'll be starting another tank within the next week or two just thought i could get some ideas or tricks if any...

75 gallon

Yea, that might be it. For an 8 inch fish, thats all their territory. You might be stuck with just adding some clown loaches, catfish or things like that, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. It would be cool to have the texas as the centerpiece.

75G is just big enough for the one Texas . . . if you put in another large fish, it has nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide . . .

if you do want to experiment one more time with your current setup, you could try a male Convict . . . no promises, but I have had good results keeping Texas and Convict together (in a 90G) . . . and a Convict wouldn't push the limits of the tank

x2!

yeah i would try sab_fan's idea or add some small catfish or something (just make sure there are plenty of low-lying hides. and yeah, a pair might work in a larger tank but i dont think your gonna have any luck with adding another large cichlid to her territory in just a 75g

what size tank are they in? thats probably the problem, not enough territory for other fish in your texas eyes.

Yep, due to territory issues, a 75g is a usually going to be a single large-cichlid tank.

Thanks everyone... at 8 inches thats i still swear thats a lot of tank for just her and the pleco... she all ready killed the male convict when she got to the same size(4")... im looking into a 125 gallon but i don't know if ill start new(african tank) or move her to it... and try for a tank mate... after what happened to the midas and other fish recently i don't think i can take my girlfriend coming home to another massacre again...
