i have a nice looking texas male if you want it ? he 's about 6" right now and wants to breed, but him and my midas are'nt gettin along anymore and i like my midas better . lol

(DOH!) lol midas are ok... too each is own.. i would love to take him but my new set up i would much rather not have a breeding pair because just one is retardedly aggressive.. and as it is i read about an 11" claiming a 200 gallon tank and kicking the crap out of 2 foot long arrowanas and some other cichlids.. i can hear her tossing rocks from my bedroom(shes been doing it for 30 minutes now). if i had 2 of them digging omg...lol i can't even imagine.. the rocks would be on my kitchen floor..lol:eek:

o yea picked up new tank and measured.. its definitely a 125(not 150).. thats better though because im on a 2nd floor and was a little scared about sinking the floors in, as i might be living here for the next 2 years...

Texas is the meanist fish I've owned. I had mine in a 220, then a 125 and now a 52g. He's only been able to live with a female festae, everything else he kills. The fish is evil but soo cool looking. The digging drives my crazy cause he tries to pile all the sand in the front so I can't see him.

he will dig sand? i want to do sand on new set up but i want her happy because she loves to dig(so cute)...she is a beast too... tries to burry in the pleco sometimes lmao and other times she is diggin him out to attack... they have teeth too :/ my pleco has gotton his back chewed on in the past and his tail is pretty bad and she drew blood from my finger last week(not doin that ne more)... i think it will be better in the 125 but we will see....

btw what is the exact substrate you are using? just looked at him and i want him!!! lol... how has it been(cleaning etc) i have had lots of tank but never sand...

dude your the guy... i read your post.. that texas was pwning that yellowhead?

8am and she is digging away... i can hear her on the otherside of the house in the kitchen...lmao

That looks like a male, not a female, which would also make it more aggressive. I have a Texas cichlid and a Carpinti. They're both aggressive males and started in a 125 community. The Carpinti beat on all of the other cichlids and had to be moved. The Texas has not been as bad.

I just use pool filter sand. I put small powerheads near the bottom and they blow all the crap off the sand so the filter picks it up. I changed one tank to sand about 2 years ago, now I only do sand. Sooo much easier to take care of and IMO looks better.

It's a female... she laid eggs and Dempsey didn't fertilize...he died... bought that huge Midas(switched tank around, took her out and everything).. she laid eggs with him and he didn't fertilize, so he died... she hasn't laid eggs since....

pool filter sand.. did you rinse? i have read up a little on it.. what about vaccuming does it fall to bottom or get sucked up.. i'm buying a lima shovel nose catfish and he might stir it up??

my buddy told me about substrate that looks like sand but is actually larger and is gravel.. like crystal or something it's made by caribsea... if i could get something that looks like sand and is soft belly friendly i think that would be best of both worlds maybe??
