Texas Cichlid tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is worth trying, I think starting with very young fish, i.e. 1" fish would give you a good chance of success. I also think your choice of a Loisellei as a tankmate is a sound one, they are they least aggressive Parachromis, but they are more than physically capable enough to defend themselves from the Texas cichlid. I would only be concerned if you choose another type of guapote, (like Freddies or Motaguense) as they would be more likely to impose themselves on the Texas cichlids, rather than simply defend themselves. Also, I would only go one with Loisellei, that way you would be sure to avoid the issue of the Loisellei paring off and spawning, things would not go well for the Texas cichlids if any equal sized breeding pair of loi's were in the tank.
I m going to get them all small but what I was gonna do is let the loisellei establish in the tank first the n are the texas so the loisellei has a territory

Letting one fish or specie establish territory first can be a major mistake even when young, this puts any later fish added at a distinct disadvantage, because the first added, has a lot to lose, and more incentive to defend its territory (which may be thought to be ) the entire tank from any interlopers.
IMO it is always best to add everyone at the same time, in that way, available territory can be divided up evenly, and may be respected with growth.

I agree with the above, add everyone in together when they are of similar size.

I agree w/ Duane and RD.

Why not just do a breeding pair? Either caprintis or loisellei. The problem is 125g simply is not enough space for that many large cichlids full grown. This is why I keep smaller, less aggressive species in my 150g.

I've never done a Texas Cichlid only tank, but I have done a Managuense Cichlid only tank and it worked great. I bought 6, 1 inch juvies and grew them out. They got a long great and spawned like crazy. Here is on of several videos I have of them on YouTube.

Ok so I’ll add all the fish at once then but if many of you think it won’t work would a loisellei pair and another pair of cichlids work in a 125 or a pair of loisellei with other cichlids

What size tank was that and was the bio load a lot, it looks like a very interesting tank and also do you think that would work with loisellei

I would go for all-males if you are going to try it. I think you would be twice as likely to succeed. Once you get a pair or two, they aren't going to want to share a 125. All males, 5 or 6 fish, would have a better chance imo.

What about if I don’t do the Texas cichlid tank what tank mates would you reccomend with the loisellei as I definitely want him, I thought about red terrors, Midas, jd, oscar, green terrors I like all of them but suggest any others. Also would 3 large cichlids work in that size tank one including the loisellei and could I have any other tank mates
