just thought I'd post my latest acquisition; this little guy is a Texas that had been trapped in a "convict" tank at an LFS I go to. I shop at this place for pet food & supplies, but never for live fish because they mean well, but . . .

anyway, I noticed this one in the top back corner of a 5G tank about two months ago; over the next several weeks, whenever I checked that tank, it would have convicts, JDs, GTs, etc. . . . and this one lonely Texas, always in the same corner

last week I said screw it and decided to rescue him. I've got the space for him in my 90G, and I really like these fish . . . and as soon as I got him home and into a quarantine tank, he came to life; eats like a pig, has great color (which my cell-phone camera doesn't show) and is like a totall different fish

so far, so good . . . FWIW, I don't actually know if it's male or female, I'm just saying "he" because it sounds nicer than "it"

here he is when I got him home (1st pic) and then about a week later (next two shots); again, sorry for cell-phone quality

wow he looks really good. cant wait to see him bigg!

Nice find sab!

thanks all! yeah, I was surprised how quickly he improved, I've got high hopes . . . good water and good food goes a long way :)

He has some nice coloration. Nice pick-up.

here's an update . . . he's out of the quarantine tank and in the 90G with the bigger fish . . . there was a day or two of being chased by the Firemouth, and then a few days of him chasing the gymnos, but now everything is settled down (the gymnos are in a different tank) and no more hostility

I'd say he's grown about 50% bigger than when I first got him, and he's showing some nice pearling . . . doesn't come thru in the pic, but he's got tourquoise blue pearls on the body/fins, and then the fins have a really subtle red color, which I did not expect

also, I know I titled this post "Texas Rescue", but it's pretty clear (to me) that this is a Carpintis cichlid . . .

I would have to agree. This guy looks like a carpintis, and not a cyanoguttatum. Beautiful find though man, and good on you for taking him on.
