Thai Silk questions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well Ivan, needless to say I was a bit shocked to see you buying FH. lol

Love the creamsicle citrinellus! If you ever make a trip south feel free to bag some of those cits up for me. :D

As far Thai Silk go, genetics wise you can end up with weak strains, just like EBJD.
See the past discussion below for more info.

While BA's prices seem high, a lot of the FH that I've seen them bring in over the past few years (mostly in cowtown) were pretty decent quality. Up here you really can't expect much in the way of quality for $40. Hopefully you got lucky with this group.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to you and all!!!!
Like usual you gave me a reality check...DAM.......lol..
the store I got these from is new and there modo is that the quality and price are better than big al's....they said this is the only way they can compete with the big stores...I have seen pic's of thai silk before but never blue like these ones....maybe a different strain...time will tell, it wouldn't be the first time I bought a fish and then sold it for half the cost....thanks for the link!!!!
If one lives and becomes a show fish in my tank, that would be enough for me....take care..

Don't get me wrong, nothing saying that for $40, or less, you can't end up with a superstar.

I had I male Thai silk for a long time bought him little just like yours turned out to be areal stunner, and to top it off he was vicious beast also, bit me every time I did a water change and would have killed any tank mates. I never did try tank mates because he was raised alone and didn't want to subject anything to that demise. So without a doubt the potential for holding their own against large aggressive fish is there just be careful that none of your stock is killed. If there is a battle it will be fierce!

Good to know...how big did he get??
Also was he more silverish than blueish?..thanks

He was bout 8" when sold him to an older gentleman who got rid his frontosa colony to get a flowerhorn and fell in love with him. I still regret letting him go. He was bright blue except fot between his eyes he had an olive green patch. Mine was not a fussy eater, but now that I hear people talking about it he did seem to have a weaker than average immune system, I had to treat him once for internal parasites and was very susceptible to body fungus for some reason. I kept his temp high around 84 and if I didn't stay on top of weekly water changes is when a fungus issue could arise. I will see if I have any pics but my laptop is on the fritz!
