The 8 Footer has arrived

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well it's full again and knock on wood I think it's good now. :headbang2

Pic 1 - Tank full
Pic 2 - Sump shot
Pic 3 - Outlet pipe in the sump, not bad for a Quiet One 1200 and an XP3 for flow.

I may need to add more heat, I am on the lower end with only 2 x 250w Stealth heaters but the tank is Acrylic so that should help. It's still heating up now since I filled with cold water we'll see how it holds once it's to 81*. I have one XP3 drawing from the tank and one from the sump to help turnover though the media in the sump. Doesn't seem to affect flow much since both outputs look about the same when held out of the water. I am going to make some stands to get the XP3's a little higher to help with flow if having them low hurts at all. The Sump fed one will have to stay kinda low though. No deco yet as I did not want to jump the gun like last time. There is some remaining water on the foam and I spilled a little again but the area I fixed is not changing at all in the last few hours. Water height is just shy of 18", I zip tied a Scrubbie over the middle drain since it's a hair lower than the end ones. It also limits return flow a little to get the tank water level a bit higher, It was only 17.5".

I think so too, I'd like to add a heater controller as well.

- Oh also forgot to mention it's got a small sponge filter in the corner powered by a small air pump and a Biowheel 150Hob stuffed with 7 Scrubbies. The XP3s have foam pads, bio chem stars, ceramic rings, bio balls, and scrubbies.

I'm gonna add more scrubbies to the sump as well.

Looking good! I would stick with scrubbies for wet dry and chem stars substrate pro bio max for submerged bio. The bio max has like 10 times the surface area its just not quite as good at wet dry action like the scrubbies are.

Not a very useful post by me, but just wanted to say great work, and nice to keep a tank going to the graveyard and get some more life out of it, it looks like it will clean up pretty nice!

Hope that it all works out for you and you get it running ok without a leak, good luck, and ill keep checking:)

Yea, that is the plan. I only have some scrubbies in the XP3s because I didn't have enough ceramic rings and bio chem stars to fill the baskets all up. One basket is packed with rings completely, another is about half full of bio chem stars. The rest are Rena Foam pads, Scrubbies, and a few bio balls too.. Eventually I'll have some spare loot to fill the baskets with the good stuff and put the scrubbies back in the sump.

Thanks, it's holding good so far from what I can see. :)

Well the tank is still holding. So in keeping pace with my no money theme I'm going to take down a smaller tank which will score me a 200w Stealth heater plus an XP2 for the 8 footer and a Cascade HOB for my 6 footer. I'm able to do this since most of my fish from the 6' tank will be going in the 8' tank and I can then move some fish from the small tank I am tearing down into the 6' tank. It will also help get more seeded media into the 8' tank to speed up the cycle even more, although it should be fine since both XPs media was left in the 6' tank sump while I was setting it up this whole time. So perhaps tonight there will be some fish pics. :) My back is hurting me now, depends how that feels tonight.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering, 2 x 250w Stealth is not enough. The sump will get over 80 but that tank is stuck at 78ish. I am hoping the 200w Stealth I am adding will be enough, it will have to be for now.

If you need a couple heaters let me know. I'll send them to you for the cost a box and shipping. I have a bunch laying aroung that I can send. Some work, some don't. They are free, so you can sort them out if you like. Let me know.

Why would one of the Indy guys sell a tank like this? I will no longer use the term Doing it Indy Style!

:banhim:

Hey! Good deals require some work. I didn't have the time or desire to do it, so I let it go for the same good deal I got it for. I could have put a little work into it and then sold it for way more, but that's not how we roll around here. Elbow grease is a lot cheaper that paying for labor. :D
