Think you have a good idea, but I think people really need to do at least a bit more research or at least get a general idea of what they want before posting a "what should go in my new blah blah blah" It is like asking what should i get for a new car? Or what should I eat? or who should I marry? At least if you have an idea of what you are intersted in then it is far easier to list some suggestions.
Examples:
I want a sports car that gets decent milage. What should I get?
Oh, check out the eclipse, wrx, maybe a mustang with gas prices falling like they are.

I feel like eating some fastfood, maybe a burger.
Ok, McD's or bugerking are options. Try also jack in the box and whataburger if they have them in your area.

I really want a beautiful girl that has a carreer, is in line to inherit lots of money, loves to do my bidding in the umm.. kitchen, and loves monsterfishkeepers.
Oh, good luck with that one buddy. When you find her, hook me up with her sister.
or, in the case that my wife reads this
She's already taken buddy (but I can hook you up with her sister).

See how easy it is when they have an idea what they want.
Okay:eek: Exactly what i was thinking:grinno:
of course people need to do research! but you cant force people too.

I think the question posed when asking for tank size is more complicated than merely what can live in there for a lifetime. the question may be associated with tank mate compatibility, quality/difficulty of care, and a whole list of other variables that people are trying to consider when asking for a stocking list. Ergo, I would agree with Oscarcrazy in that it does call for more specifics and not such a general answer that only answers the question of size.

Good intentions though.
There is differant questions but one of the most common threads go something like this, New 50 gallon tank what can go in it, or I got a ten gallon tank whats an oddball that i can keep in it. So those questions i believe can be answered by a list like i made.

I think that this is a pretty good little guide that touches maybe a few of the more common species but leaves out quite a lot.
An easy to solve this dilemma of the countless fish left would be a simple generalization at the end of every tank size. Like to include the plethora of cichlids that only get within 5-7 or 8" max you could say at the end of the 55g tank "other 5-8" cichlids"
I know it leaves out a lot thats why i need other people to contribut i dont most of the fish but in a forum of 40,000 i think we can think up a pretty good list.
