I don't think that counts, they technically aren't bass (just very large cichlids).

Rock bass and even largemouth bass aren't technically bass, they're sunfish. Striped bass and white bass are true bass. The op wasn't very clear, it seems like anything with "bass" in the name counts...

I said Bass, but I posted it in the native thread, meaning Peacock Bass wouldn't count. Anything with bass in the name that lives in north america. Is that simple enough?:nilly:

i loved my lmb- plus nothin fights like a lmb pound for pound-

Not a variant...completely different species.
This page shows 7 of the now 8 recognized species of black bass in North America. The one not listed is actually mentioned at the bottom of the spotted bass page called the Alabama Bass,(Micropterus henshali)

I will tell you that just about every fisherman that has caught the big 3 species of bass(largemouth, smallmouth and spotted) will tell you that on the end of a line, the lb for lb strength rankings are as follows:
1. Smallmouth
2. Spotted
3. Largemouth

There are other factors too. Fish from fast moving river systems are generally tougher than those in still/slack lakes/ponds, etc. So a Lmb from a fast river would be tougher than a Smallie from a lake. This is very general but has been the case more often than not IME.
