12/12/2012-Introduction:)

Ordered a group of six Ex-Cichlasoma Beani from The Wet Spot in Portland, OR and figured i should do a thread that will show them as they progress with hopes of getting a successful breeding pair/trio:naughty:. They were listed at 1.5" but 3 of them came in at close to 3" and the rest from 1.5-2". They are all in a 135 gallon with a heavy rock scape and driftwood giving multiple territory locations/sight barriers to hopefully curb aggression somewhat. I have read that beani are some of the most aggressive/sensitive cichlids to keep. The temperature is going to be run at 73-75 degrees (thank duanes for the info) and is ran on my drip wc line dripping 1gph of fresh water 24/7. All this will be combined with a diet consisting of 100% New Life Spectrum foods to give them the best quality food possible. blahblahblah...:nilly:.

Delivery came today and even with them being all bagged in 1 bag (heard bad stories of beani in confined spaces) and being in very cold water (heat pack not used right) all came in very healthy looking and were exploring the tank within minutes of introduction. Everything is great so far and they arent skittish or shy at all and spend their time swimming in a group throughout the tank like they've been there for months, and have already went after some .5mm NLS aggressively which is awesome for day 1.

Okay enough typing heres some pics...

Good luck. You are definitely prepared with all the info you received from Duane and others in the other thread. I'm betting you will have success.

Thanks I am hoping to spread some beani love and get a good compilation of them as they grow to get a bit more info out there for those unsure about keeping them.

12/13/2012-Day 2 Update

All are doing great after 24 hrs with me. Fed more .5mm NLS and they all seem to be liking it, but didnt go after initially. As the food settled the picked at it throuhout the tank in a scavenging manor. They are constantly swimming and exploring the tank and still arent shy or skittish at all. Colors are starting to fill in as they settle and can see hints of the beautiful snakeskin pattern. The larger ones were showing a bit of tail slapping last night as they start to develop a pecking order but nothing too crazy.

It's always a relief to see new fish eat and settle in. All my new fish have eaten as well and that always brings a swell of relief. To have it be on day one is a sweet felling! Your bad boys will be loving that tank too. They should do awesome with all the tlc they will receive from Forrest the fishman!

Awesome!
I know they are already eating the best food, but some HBH super soft spirulina crushed might be easier for them to eat as NLS can be dense plus its lower protein.
Duanes always has the best advice!
Be sure to update!

Thanks but the plan with these guys is 100% nls no matter what. Lower protein is not a concern with these guys and the .5 is super small so they dont have issues eating it. Thanks Duanes is somebody that when he posts i listen.
