12/12/2012-Introduction
Ordered a group of six Ex-Cichlasoma Beani from The Wet Spot in Portland, OR and figured i should do a thread that will show them as they progress with hopes of getting a successful breeding pair/trio
. They were listed at 1.5" but 3 of them came in at close to 3" and the rest from 1.5-2". They are all in a 135 gallon with a heavy rock scape and driftwood giving multiple territory locations/sight barriers to hopefully curb aggression somewhat. I have read that beani are some of the most aggressive/sensitive cichlids to keep. The temperature is going to be run at 73-75 degrees (thank duanes for the info) and is ran on my drip wc line dripping 1gph of fresh water 24/7. All this will be combined with a diet consisting of 100% New Life Spectrum foods to give them the best quality food possible. blahblahblah...
.
Delivery came today and even with them being all bagged in 1 bag (heard bad stories of beani in confined spaces) and being in very cold water (heat pack not used right) all came in very healthy looking and were exploring the tank within minutes of introduction. Everything is great so far and they arent skittish or shy at all and spend their time swimming in a group throughout the tank like they've been there for months, and have already went after some .5mm NLS aggressively which is awesome for day 1.
Okay enough typing heres some pics...
