12/15/2012-Video

Everything is everything and the beani are doing great. As you can see in the video theres a bit of chasing going on by what i believe is the dominant male. Its nothing too serious and there is plenty of hides and the others evade easily. Well heres a video from tonight that shows them in action and looking great. Thanks everyone for following this so far. Stay tuned...

12/21/12 all is well

Beani are doing fantastic thus far. All 6 are all super healthy and active and eating like pigs. 1 has definitely showed to be the dominant male and does quite aq bit of chasing, but with the sightbreaks and hides the chasing is short lived. The others seem to be doing okay despite the chasing, but any signs of stress and the dom male may be separated. Already can see some growth on these little beasts.

Hey Wayne! Nice to see you on MFK. Good resource for sure.

I have a big group of 6-10" Beani in my 10' long tank that are doing well. I thought there would be some casualties to this point but all is well other than a few skirmishes. I got them from Dan about 6 months ago and I think I have 2 males and 5 females, possibly 6 females (the one i think is an extra male is much smaller than the dominant male). I feed them ONLY Tetra Cichlid sticks per Dan's instructions (this is what he raises all his beani on) and have had zero disease issues. I also have 3 10" Banded Leporinius Leporinius as target fish, they are tough fish and get bashed on pretty good but that is there job haha (I would recommend some small dithers for you like these, tinfoil barbs, silver dollars, etc)). Additionally I have 1 9" Grammodes and a like size H. Psittacus in there (mainly due to lack of room in other tanks) that are doing well. I do at least 1 50% WC weekly, maybe more depending. They are very cool fish so you have a lot to look forward too. Good luck with the little ones. I gave up on trying to raise from small sizes and worked out a trade for these big dogs.

12/31/2012-Update video

Quick video of the Beani. They're doing incredible and eating and growing like crazy. Their colors especially in the larger trio are really starting to shine and show the awesome potential they have. All are well and showing no signs of internal issues or stress such as ripped fins and whatnot. Still some chasing from the dominant male (guess) but still short lived. Wish i could get some photos but these guys are constantly moving and impossible to photo. Here you go...

1/24/2013 Beani A While...

Been a while since I have posted on these little beasts so figured it was time for an update. All the original 6 are still with me and doing absolutely fantastic and growing like champs. The largest male (guess) has definitely shown to be the dominant fish and there may be even some pairing up already, but still too early to tell between the two largest ones. Temp has stayed steady @75 degrees and they have only eaten NLS since I got them and they tear into the stuff like there's no tomorrow. Excited to be having a few people contacting me about beani with them having plans on getting some themselves. This species needs some more respect and to be more widely kept in the hobby without the negative implications that come with keeping them. Stay tuned for more Beani action.

Crappy Pics from tonight...
