  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
man you guys are rough lol

fish look overall healthy and compatible for now, tank looks good, as long as you enjoy the mix don't let others get you down... and plan for that bigger tank in the near future with some of those monsters.

cheers

If you see an ostrich, a penguin and a turkey in the same cage, would you cheer that too?

I get into trouble from time to time, but it's important to point out the difference between a properly set up tank versus a glass box with a bunch of "beautiful" moving objects.

We all have limitations as to the number and size of tanks we can set up. We can choose to show restraints and work within these limitations. I don't understand why you had to encourage this kind of behavior.

i don't think thats an accurate analogy, i see it all the time with saltwater fish would you not keep corals from different oceans in the same tank, it happens on almost every award winning reef tank! what about saltwater fowlr tanks? if so than i am guilty i have fish from all over the world in one tank.

your disdain for this type of tank is your opinion, in the end it's his aquarium and your opinion on what is proper or beautiful. would i stock a tank like this, no, but i probably wouldn't pick whats in your tank as my stock either ;)

South America and Africa broke apart around Early Cretaceous. That's around 140-150 million years ago. In terms of evolutionary distance, I don't think the analogy is far off.

I wish you had at least tried to understand the argument. Would it make you happier if I had said it's like a giraffe living with a zebra and an elephant? These mammals are certainly younger evolutionarily.

I started out as ignorant too, but at least I try to learn. There are those that refuse to take advice, and there are those like you who applaud such behaviors in the name of "freedom". For what?

i understand your argument completely and disagree but you missed my point completely too, as long as the fish are happy and the op likes his tank, who are we to say what is appropriate or beautiful in the name of being a purist tank and anyone who doesn't conform to that mindset is ignorant? its a forum i guess we can state our opinion as rude or condescending as it may, i just think as hobbyist we should appreciate everyone's taste.

and i reiterate, some of the most elaborate and best looking saltwater aquariums even in public aquariums mix specimans that would never co exist in the wild. even some of the largest tanks on this site have monsters from all over the world mixed and matched together that are from completely different parts of the world.

Just to make it perfectly clear, you support the decision to keep a dozen large cichlids from different continents, including the B. micro that can get over two feet, in a 198 gallon tank? If this is the case, I have nothing more to say.

In case you missed it, he also had several jumbo plecos and a big fat RTC in it.

I know nothing about reef tanks and won't pretend that I do.

size of the tank was not a subject we were debating or at least i wasn't,, in fact in my post i even indicated to the op that he should start saving for an upgrade. i guess we can just agree to disagree about tank combos :)

Guys, allow me please... as you may see all fish are calm and relaxed. I am only 40 years growing fish ... had all kinds of setup/fish, had at least 10 biotops setups.. this time I choose something different and I like it so far.... but be sure that whenever I see a small sign of stress - I take action. usually the solution is exchanging fish or giving them to friends/ colleague... by the way, they do the same so all enjoy.
anyway I appreciate your concern.

Hard to believe somebody with the experiences you have would discuss combos in abstract without considering tank size. How can one separate these two factors? My very first reply was about keeping B. micro in a tank this size. I argued in my other reply that one cannot keep anything one wants because of the limitations on the number and "size" of the tanks. Again, please try to understand the arguement. I'm not against keeping an ostrich, a penguin and a turkey in the same zoo. I'm against keeping them in the same cage. And there's nothing inaccurate about the analogy because phylogenetically they are as distantly related as cichlids from South America and Africa.

Forgive me for being so negative, but I can't help but wonder whether swapping fish constantly is the reason that most of these fish are in good shape. It's an interesting short term experiment. I just hope it doesn't go on for too long, but it's obviously your right. Good luck with everything.
