That is not a true record (read the description), that aro looks to be between 30" and 36", nowhere near 4 feet, let alone 5'.
i did not say it was that size i was saying that it had similar health problems, like the bent-up back. i was also saying that the one i saw was what you would get if you scaled it up and turned it a darker color.

A 4' arowana is on par with a 16" oscar as the most commonly over-exaggerated fish on the internet. If I had a dollar for every person who had claimed to have (or have seen) a 3'+ aro or a 14"+ oscar I'd be able to build a 20k gallon pond to grow some out for myself.
I don't care how excited you are about it, until I see a pic of the fish on a tape measure I'm going to call bulls--t...
More like a 18-20" oscar, it is actually possible for an O to reach 16", it isn't possible (well provable is probably a better word) for an aro to get to 4'.

the biggest i saw was about 3-3.5' or there about and it was at shedd aquarium in chicago....the next biggest was today at the lfs i guy dropped off a 2.5' silver that was about 5" tall...i may try and adopt that one, though funds are slim do to the new salt tank and black aro buys...
Are you sure it was only 5" tall? That seems very skinny for a 2.5' aro, I'd expect an aro that size to be at least 6-7".

Sorry, You're right... I mean 8 I put 6 like for Asian Arowana.

But this is not a point... I mean not what I was trying to say...

What do you think Brian, you have a nice tank and big Arowana. Do you think that even 8 is not too less for that kind of fish ?

As most people would say, the bigger the better for the fish - of course that is not always possible.

my 8x3 foot print seems sufficient for 3 silvers (and 3 asians though these are still juvi-ish). seems rather spacious without them gigas. The silvers are all pushing 3' but not quite there cos there is still some space when i look sideways into aquarium... never could quite measure the fish

i would probably get flamed for this, but i think 8x3 is a bit overkill for a single silver - i recon it could live in a smaller ... how much smaller is a matter of opinion

I've seen a 2ft Jar, 2ft RTG and a couple 2.5ft Silvers with no barbels all in the same tank before.....It's a massively Overstocked tank at an LFS with peoples rejected Monster fish it also has a Clown Knife, Motoro, Ornate, RTC with SEVERE Gill Curl.....also a 3ft Silver in a 260gal

My pop had an old photo of an aro, dead, layed out over a measuring tape. 50" on the dot - thats 4'2".
It was a pretty fat fish, very deep bodied for an aro. It was kept in an indoor pool converted to an aquarium of sorts.

Just because you havent seen it, doesnt mean they arent around.

This is probably the biggest silver ive seen, too bad its dead now i think it was in its teens. The vid is 3 years old and i think it died last year so it was a tad bit bigger.
