The bowfishing thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks for making the separate thread, was getting kinda congested with bowfishing over in the other thread!

Yeah, I love bow fishing just as much if not more then standard fishing. It is good to keep them separate though.

Nice. I got a big male the other day.

One thing I forgot to add is I bring a billy club to smash the heads of the fish so they don't suffer and flop around in the cooler. A few hard hits to the brain and they are done. Not only will the noise spook other fish but it is better to kill them quickly.

I've wanted to try bowfishing ever since I got my first bow... I have no idea what to do with the fish though. Around here I'd probably have no trouble finding carp, but I'm definitely not going to eat them and shooting them just to kill them seems wasteful to me... If I knew what to do with them I might take it up.

I was always told that there were no carp native to the US, so killing them is encouraged since any carp are considered an invasive species. That's why the "wanton waste" regulations don't apply to them. Certain species here are required to be killed and reported (where found, how many, size, etc.)

Actually wanton waste DO apply to them if you leave them on the banks and ruined the recreation time for someone. Just dump them on your property and burying them. For your record.....carps tasted horrible even if they are smoked.
