The case for being a poor fish keeper

These threads get silly!! You can't compare fish to dogs... fisrt off there are plenty of people who keep dogs in cages year round.. they are called hunters, although you might disagree it still happens, and yes an opinion is just that an opinion. Same goes with fish, if you truly feel the way you say then technically you should never keep fish in a tank or any other animal for that reason. We could never properly house any animal the way nature intended. Just my 2 cents. Talk to anyone involved with PETA and even 1 neon in a 10 gallon tank is unacceptable. Sorry to rant, I'm just tired of all the people bashing what should/ should not be doing. To each his/her own if you don't agree then move on and keep it to yourself.
I assume this is directed towards me since you commented about dogs.
Why can't you compare the two?
First off good hunters take extra care of their dogs. They are not kept in a crate cages except maybe while transporting them to a location to hunt. Then that dog is free to roam, hunt, run and do whatever it pleases at least for a while.
If they are caged or tied it's usually plenty of room for them to stretch, run, play whatever and if it's not then they are at fault for not caring for their animals quality of life.
Do you release your fish temporarily into a lake? Don't think so.
The comparison is made to show the cruelty in packing an animal into overcrowded conditions for its lifetime.
As far as PETA those guys are extreme and crazy in some of their beliefs.
Look I get the point an aquarium is not the same as being in a lake or river.
But why not give the best we can to our pets?
One more thing. The whole point of a forum is to share, learn, and grow in the hobby.
If you post your asking for comments. Are you not? So I should not just "move on" if I don't agree.
We all should be able to have an intelligent, interesting conversation.

All I'm basically saying to each their own. If you don't like it, move on, don't be negative. Tbh you just answered anyone's argument against caging/tanks/tying up. Who's to say who is a "good" keeper? Honestly I try to be, but I'm not always. I give my pets the biggest place I can for them to roam / swim but technically it's still not enough. As long as all are healthy and live a good lifespan that's all we can do. I used to have over 30 cichlids in a 75.. over crowded, yes but never lost one to disease and I had that tank up and running for 10 years. I even had numerous spawns, and let nature take its course. Some lived most got eaten..

I think there's a whole side of the hobby that you're largely unfamiliar with. This hobby has only recently taken root in the USA. In Asia and Europe, they've been doing it for decades longer and, quite frankly, they're better at it. What you see is a crowded tank and are quick to dismiss as poor conditions simply isn't the case. Most of those tanks are more invested in bio media than your entire fish room. Rather than be so opinionated (I'm sure this stems from the Lounge thread that was locked) do a little homework ;)

This is not about me. This is not about that thread. This is not about how Asians keep tanks. This is not about animal welfare or animal rights. It's about you.

Lots of mind games with you!

This is an exercise in logic, circular as it may be; that is what a Catch 22 is after all.
